Joseph Dolence - CSS Class of 2007
When I received word of my acceptance into Mayo’s SURF Program, I was thankful I chose St. Scholastica for my undergraduate work. The quality of education here, particularly in the sciences, is unparalleled. Faculty-student interaction is crucial to a successful academic experience. I learn more just in talking to them one-on-one than in class. I came to St. Scholastica for three reasons primarily. I knew their science program was second to none, it was close to home, and from the minute I stepped on this campus I felt welcome. After three years, I know I signed up for more. I am a part of a community of learning committed to the advancement towards the future of science. By understanding yesterday today, we can take the next step. The whole purpose of being at CSS is to gain the knowledge to make tomorrow possible. As a Biology and Biochemistry double major, I am inundated with a science community that understands these things. I have never questioned my decision to come to CSS, and through hard work, St. Scholastica allowed me to reach goals that seemed previously unattainable.

I can honestly tell you that St. Scholastica was the best experience of my life and it prepared me well to continue my education and be successful in pursuing my professional degree. I came to the College of St. Scholastica after visiting and feeling very comfortable with the personal atmosphere at CSS. While at Scholastica, I participated in numerous activities to stay active in our community. I played varsity baseball and was an All-American and Academic All-American during my four years. I also was the first group of students to be peer mentors as part of the Dignitas program which is designed for incoming freshman. I was a peer advisor to help incoming students learn about CSS and help them schedule classes. I also worked with the admissions department, alumni relations, and athletics department besides other community volunteer opportunities. Attending the College of St. Scholastica was the best decision I ever made, and I hope someday you will be in a position to achieve your dreams like I am today.
