The College of St. Scholastica has extensive physiology and kinesiology laboratories for students to conduct comprehensive physiological studies. The five laboratories are:
The Graduate Exercise Physiology Laboratory is equipped with the latest metabolic equipment to determine oxygen consumption and cardiac output among other important physiological responses at rest and during exercise. The primary research focus of the faculty is the study of cardiovascular responses to different human conditions at rest and during exercise.
The Undergraduate Exercise Physiology Laboratory equipped with a Medical Graphics Cardio2 metabolic analyzer. In addition, there are three treadmills, four bicycle ergometers, three ECG machines, and 15 state-of-the-art computers.
The Psychophysiology Laboratory is designed to physiologically profile the effects of stress, relaxation techniques at rest and during exercise, cognitive strategies to alter function, and various training protocols to improve metabolic efficiency during exercise.
The Kinesiology Laboratory is equipped with weight lifting and strength measurement equipment. It is used to study three-dimensional analysis of human motion along with the Anatomy Laboratory, which has cadavers for dissection and study throughout the academic year.Comprehensive physiological studies are conducted on a variety of populations with the objective to publish the work in scientific journals.
