Welcome!
It's an exciting time to be involved in the Women's and Gender Studies Program at The College of St. Scholastica. In April of 2007, we added "Gender Studies" to our name. We now offer students an appropriate introduction to both the Women's Studies and Gender Studies perspectives. We encourage students to explore the roots and expressions of women's and gender studies in history, culture, and/or literature; grow in their understanding of feminist theory; and integrate their classroom learning experiences with service learning activities. In addition to the courses and service learning opportunities we offer, three different student groups are part of the Women's and Gender Studies Program: Third Wavers, Open Doors, and Speak Up! For more information about course offerings or student groups, please contact me by phone or e-mail.

Mission
The Women's and Gender Studies Program at St. Scholastica provides opportunities for students to think beyond the boundaries of traditional gender roles in academics, in institutions, and in everyday life. The program follows an interdisciplinary approach, encouraging students to explore diverse experiences and perspectives. Students integrate classroom knowledge with hands-on service learning opportunities.
The Benedictine Tradition
The Women's and Gender Studies Program at The College of St. Scholastica is linked to the Benedictine tradition of the monastic women who founded this institution.

Antiphon to the Holy Spirit I
The Holy Spirit is life that gives life,
Moving all things.
It is the root in every creature
And purifies all things,
Wiping away sins,
Anointing wounds.
It is radiant life, worthy of praise,
Awakening and enlivening
All things.

twelfth-century Benedictine abbess
