Laura Schroeder

Laura Schroeder, who graduated in May 2007 with a BA in Advertising and Public Relations and a minor in Photography, came to CSS as an undecided major, switched to Communication, and finally, after deciding that her degree needed to be more concentrated, switched to Advertising and Public Relations. One thing she liked about the APR major is that it allows her to be structured, but have the option of creativity.

Laura also pursued a Photography minor. She said that she has always been interested in photography and actually took two classes in high school. In addition to being a TA for three years for the Photo Lab, Laura was a TA for Ed Smith’s Alternative Photo Methods class and took 9 classes with him (almost all of which were photography).

Laura expressed how much she misses being a photo lab TA. She is going to misses having the photo lab at her disposal, making friends, and using her skills to help others out with their photos.

Laura was also happy to have the opportunity to TA for Alternative Photo Methods. She says she did really well in the class, so Ed asked her to TA for it. She enjoyed helping out the students in the class and showing them quicker and more efficient ways to get things done. She also had the opportunity to teach a few classes when Ed was gone and give demonstrations.

Not surprisingly, Laura’s internship was working with a commercial photographer named Jeff Frey. On her internship, she had the opportunity to go out on photo shoots with Jeff, set up lighting, and even be used as a prop in the shoot. Through her internship she learned how to respond to different lighting conditions.

Laura recently accepted a job at Spectrum, a company in the Twin Cities. She plans on working on improving their advertising, starting a website and being a property manager. She also has tentative plans to attend graduate school for a Masters in Management. Within a few years she plans on finding a job in the Duluth area to be with her fiancé.
