PhD, University of Nebraska - Lincoln, Evolution Ecology Behavior
MS, North Dakota State University, Zoology
BA, University of St. Thomas, Biology

I am a broadly trained organismal biologist. Most of my experience is in behavioral ecology and field biology. My current projects investigate the life history tradeoffs and behavior of juveniles in the thirteen-lined ground squirrel (Ictidomys tridecemlineatus) and eastern chipmunk (Tamias striatus) systems. I am interested in behavior during the juvenile period and parent offspring conflict. I have also worked on individual vocal identification of Barred Owls (Strix varia) and moth diversity in the Queensland, Australia rainforests.

I team teach General Biology 1 and 2, and also teach Animal Behavior, Ornithology and Human Biology.

I grew up in Southeastern Wisconsin and obtained my undergraduate degree in Biology and French from Marquette University. After graduating I worked for a small biotech company and in a clinical hospital lab in SE WI. I decided to return for my doctorate in Cancer Research at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.  I did my research at St. Jude's Childrens Hospital in Memphis, TN. I did a post doctorial training at the University of Minnesota- Duluth.

My academic interests include educational research and the study of drug transporters and development in models. My interest in science is rooted my curiosity in the processes of life and how “things” work.

In my spare time I like to read, cook new dishes and listen to different types of music.   I am supported by my husband (Christopher) and two sons (Charlie and August) and Border Collie (Joy). Our family also includes one very friendly eleven-year-old sugar glider, Piper.
