MENTUR Project Bridge Program for Newly Accepted Nursing Majors
The program will focus on mathematical skills, writing skills, and a basic science review, as well as issues related to time management, study skills, use of technology, etc. The bridge program will also provide opportunities for students to network with each other, tour clinical settings, and meet nursing role models from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Presentations by: Daryl Sylvester, SMDC Recruiter Present on the trends and experiences SMDC is looking for and perform a mock interview with a current MENTUR student.
Mary Anderson, CSS Career Services Presenting on the value of internships and discuss: why would you want to do an internship, how to look for an internship and the pieces required for the application (resume, cover letter, application).

Students will choose from three options to attend a Cultural Diversity Workshop and learn about MENTUR Diversity Awareness Month and how this knowledge will help them as future nurses.
Presentations by Xavier Bell, Duluth Community Action, and Bill Howes , OLCE program at CSS.
Speakers will talk about diversity and their own cultures. These presentations will lead to a month-long diversity awareness effort for students taking part in the MENTUR Project.
March 2009
During the month of March, students participating in the program will be participating in a self-directed diversity project. Students will be taking part in a community/campus activity related to diversity and reflect upon the experience.
In addition, several study groups and NCLEX-RN Reviews will continue during the month.
April 2009 Workshop : Learning for a Lifetime Workshop Description--Healthcare is constantly changing and requires staying current in the latest trends and research. In this workshop, learn how you can transfer your college research skills into your career and community. Databases used to search for nursing and general topic journals will be demonstrated and resources available to you after graduation will be discussed. Firestar is a graduate of the School of Nursing at The College of St. Scholastica in 2007. She will discuss transitions from school to career including highlights and struggles as a new graduate. She will address how CSS prepared her for the NCLEX exam and her career. Additionally, Firestar will address cultural interactions and how they influenced her in her career. At the end of the workshop, we will have a few minutes for question and answers.
