An associate Degee will allow a nurse basic clinical competency in a controlled clinical setting, while a Bachelor's degree offers a nurse increased opportunities in management and community settings. The primary pathway for entry into professional level nursing is the four-year Bachelor degree. Nurses, who are interested in furthering their careers into areas such as nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, and other advanced clinical specialties are required to have earned a Bachelor's degree for entry into Graduate schools.
Is St. Scholastica accredited?
Yes, the College of St. Scholastica is a fully accredited learning institution recognized for its' excellence in education. The Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education accredits St. Scholastica's nursing program, and the program is approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
What are the student/teacher ratios?
The classroom student/teacher ration is approximately 12:1, the clinical setting ratio is 10:1, and the practice lab is 15:1.
What is expected of me?Each department at St. Scholastica has certain criteria for acceptance into their respective programs. Completion of general education requirements, an overall GPA 3.0 or greater, Registration as a Certified Nursing Assistant, CPR certification, and a math skills assessment are implemented to accept students into the Nursing Program at CSS.
What is special about nursing at CSS?
St. Scholastica prepares its students with in-depth training through the use of theoretical approaches in the class room and clinical experiences in local facilities. It offers state-of-the-art equipment in the student nursing skills lab. Students receive personal attention from the same nursing advisor throughout their time at CSS. The education the students' receive entails all aspects of nursing practice. Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Medical Surgery, Psychiatric and Public Health are part of the curriculum studied. Students are also exposed to the values of St. Benedict, which instills moral and ethical practices in their every day living, and thus prepares the students for life-long commitment to moral role modeling and leadership in the community.
Will high school prepare me for my experience at St. Scholastica, and can I get extra help as needed?
A high school student looking at a nursing career would benefit by taking classes such as Biology, Math, Science and Chemistry while still in high school. Although the programs at CSS can be challenging, there are many services offered to help those students who may need additional help with course materials. The Department of Undergraduate Nursing offers a supportive student centered learning environment. CSS also offers a Student Development Center where tutors (at no cost to the student) and other means of assistance are readily available.
Can I transfer credits from another school?
