Why did you choose St. Scholastica?
I chose St. Scholastic for a few different reasons. Because of the online RN to BA program, I was able to finish my bachelor's degree and continue to work nearly full time at my job. The advisors at St. Scholastica were great in helping me navigate through the requirements, so I could get started and registered with more ease. They also helped with getting me information about scholarships that I would qualify for.
Why did you choose your major?
I have always been a caretaker and knew nursing was a good fit for me. I completed my associate degree RN at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community college, but I wanted to take that next step and finish my bachelor's degree. I am so glad I did. I got to experience some new opportunities and learn more about my field. Because, I went back and finished I qualified for a position, which I otherwise wouldn't have. And now I have a career that I love.
What are your post-graduation plans or goals?
I am currently working as a Public Health Nurse supporting families with babies and families who are expecting. My plan is to continue to pursue this and seek more education that will help me grow as a professional, so that I can be a greater asset and support to my community.
What are your best campus experiences? What will you always remember?
Every time I am on the campus I am taken back at how beautiful it is. I come from a very poor family and one where college seemed out of reach at times. When I came to the campus, I felt pride that I had made it and that I was actually doing it. I had made the decision to reach out of my comfort zone and pursue my dreams.
How do you have fun in Duluth?
My favorite thing to do is hike in the woods and along waterways. The Superior Hiking Trail is on lots of diverse land. I spent a great amount of time sipping coffee and using the wireless internet and studying in some local coffee shops. I didn't expect to miss that about school, but I do.
Advice for prospective students?
Take charge of your life and pursue your dreams, even if it means taking a leap of faith.
