The College of St. Scholastica

Program Philosophy
The Master of Arts in Management (MAM) prepares students to lead and manage rapid change in their organizations and business sectors, emphasizing the behavioral aspects of running an organization. Founded in 1986, its over 600 graduates have ascended to leadership roles in private corporations, nonprofits, healthcare, government, and small business entrepreneurship. The MAM Program:

  • Approaches management as a practice, much like medicine or law, which can be
    studied and mastered
  • Welcomes students who do not have undergraduate education in business
    management
  • Uses an evening format with flexible scheduling for busy adults
  • Produces graduates skilled at identifying and analyzing organizational problems,
developing innovative solutions, and making correct, ethical decisions
  • Offers options for concentrated study in organization development (planned
change), health care administration and other management disciplines
  • Can be completed in about 16 months (if a student takes two courses per eight-
    week term)
  • Helps students develop their careers or undertake occupational transitions

Program Description
The MAM primarily focuses on organizational behavior, organization development, human resource management, interpersonal communication, and strategic management. It also includes traditional business topics like marketing, finance, and economics. The program relies on experiential learning through which students apply theoretical concepts in real world settings. The MAM offers a variety of options for a final capstone project (including a thesis option) to help students integrate program lessons in a way that is personally meaningful. Students may also choose to concentrate their elective study in one of the following areas:

  • Organization Development
  • Healthcare Administration
  • Human Resource Management (Duluth campus only)
  • IT Leadership

Program Format
The 40 semester credit program is offered at the Duluth, St. Paul, and St. Cloud campuses in an evening format that allows professionals to maintain their current work schedules while enhancing their knowledge and skills. The management program can be completed in 16 to 28 months; depending on whether a student takes one or two courses per eight-week term.
