Long before French, Spanish or the other romance languages came to be, people spoke, shopped, negotiated and read in Latin. The Latin program includes a full year (8 credits) of language study. It is an excellent complement to the Medieval and Renaissance Studies Minor.
LTN 1101 Latin I and LTN 1102 Latin II: 2 cr. each
The courses introduce grammar, syntax and basic vocabulary,with an aim toward reading fluency and some degree of oral expression; they begin to examine the culture and society in which this language flourished. Prerequisite: Placement exam or consent of instructor.
LTN 1103 Latin II and LTN 1104 Latin IV: 2 cr. each
Latin III and IV complete the introduction to grammar, syntax and basic vocabulary, againwith an aim toward reading fluency and some degree of oral expression; they continue to acquaint students with the culture and society in which this language flourished, with particular attention to the affect of Latin on post-classical cultures and languages. Prerequisite: Placement examor consent of instructor.
