The Public Relations major provides a basic foundation for students who will work in a variety of settings. These students will be able to design appropriate messages for specific audiences using a number of media. The interdisciplinary nature of this program reflects the liberal arts focus of the College.
The Requirements of the Public Relations Major
The Public Relations Major requires a minimum of 46 credits. The major track includes the following 22 credit core communication courses: Investigative Writing, Intercultural Communication, Mass Media Law and Ethics, Persuasion, Argumentation, and Media Criticism. The Public Relations track requires the following additional (24 credits) courses: Writing for Mass Media, Media Literacy, Introduction to Public Relations, Public Relations, Crisis Communication, Internship, Organizational Behavior.
This major is designed to allow students room to explore supplemental areas of interest through additional minor(s) or major(s). Suggestions include: Media Arts, Journalism, English, Marketing, Management, Organizational Behavior, or Political Science.
