Citing an Article Without an Author ... in MLA & in ... APA

If an article does not have an author, use what is called a "title entry." The citation begins with the title of the article, and in your paper's bibliography, it would be listed alphabetically by title.

This example will use a citation from a magazine article.

Lustig, Theodore. "Gutenberg: First Modern Inkmaker? The Inventor of Movable Type
Probably Also Created the First Workable Printing Ink." Graphic Arts Monthly
Feb. 2002: 53.

If this article did not have an author it would be cited as-
"Gutenberg: First Modern Inkmaker? The Inventor of Movable Type Probably Also Created
the First Workable Printing Ink. Graphic Arts Monthly Feb. 2002: 53.

Citing an article without an author in APA style (see: pp. 210-211 of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th edition).
This example will use a citation from a magazine article.

Lustig, T. (2002, February). Gutenberg: First modern inkmaker? The inventor of movable
type probably also created the first workable printing ink. Graphic Arts Monthly 74, 53.

If this article did not have an author it would be cited as -
Gutenberg: First modern inkmaker? The inventor of movable type probably also created
the first workable printing ink. (2002, February). Graphic Arts Monthly 74, 53.
