The College of St. Scholastica Library was created to support the needs of the whole College population - both on- and off-campus. This includes supporting the classes offered to students, assisting faculty with the research and curriculum development, and supporting the various information needs of the staff. To accomplish this, the Library offers several different services to assist you with your needs.
Getting Started: Before you can begin using the Library and its services you must:
Don't have a CSS ID? Contact your program or department to get one. All students, faculty, and staff must have a CSS ID regardless if you are on- or off-campus.
Activate your Library barcode by filling out the online form, or by contacting the Distance Education Librarian.
When activating your Library barcode, you will need the following information available:
-
the barcode on the back of your CSS ID (14 digits, begins 20116...)
-
your student ID number (begins with a B or V)
-
your full name
-
Address
-
Phone number
-
Email Address
Once your card has been activated you can begin using all Library services, except off-campus access to the databases. New Library barcode numbers are added to the proxy server list every Monday. The proxy server is a specialized database that recognizes your Library barcode and gives you access to the article databases from off-campus. Check on the Tuesday or Wednesday after you have activated your barcode number to see if it has been added to the proxy server list. To do this, click on the small green icon before any database on the Find Articles page. On the next page, you will be prompted for your Library barcode. Type it into the box, and click submit. If your barcode has been activated, you will be brought into the database you chose. If not, you will be given a message that says your barcode number is either incorrect or not on file. If you receive this message your barcode is not active. Please contact the Distance Education Librarian, so the Library can look into the problem.
***Note: If you need immediate access to the databases, contact the Distance Education Librarian.
