History of The College of St. Scholastica Library
The Library was built on the first floor with a chapel above it. This building was finished in 1938 and appropriately named Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel to reflect the troubled times.

In 1965, a Ridder memorial gift made possible an expansion of the Library stacks, adding a second floor, and doubling the available floor space.
However, in 1985, it was determined that more space for the Library was sorely needed, and the "year in exile" began where the Library and Chapel switched places. Two floors were added in the spacious Chapel for a total of three floors that make up the current Library. An elevator was added and many elements such as the stained-glass windows, woodwork, and leather doors were retained from both the old Library and Chapel for the new Library. In 1986 this renovation was completed.
