NSG 2200 Holistic Approaches to Professional Nursing

Introduces the student to holistic nursing care of individuals including initiating and maintaining a therapeutic relationship and utilizing the holistic nursing process with clients in clinical settings. Focus is on health promotion and disease prevention in individuals across the lifespan. Prerequisites: BIO 2110, Acceptance into Nursing Major.

NSG 3200 Holistic Nursing Approaches to Health Transitions
7 cr.
This course introduces the student to the practice of holistic nursing care for individuals and families experiencing transitions in health status. Concepts are applied in a variety of clinical settings. Prerequisites: NSG 2200. Co-requisites: NSG 3225, BIO/HSC 3020.

NSG 3225 Health Transitions - Holistic Nursing Interventions

This coursewill engage the student in simulation activities which continue to develop critical thinking skills by advancing assessment techniques and nursing interventions with clients experiencing health transitions. Prerequisite: NSG 2200. Co-requisite: NSG 3200, BIO/ HSC 3020.

NSG 4240 Community as Client

This course focuses on community assessment, resource finding and resource utilization.Studentswill apply the holistic caring process to a public health target population. Prerequisite: NSG 3300, 3325, 3331. Prerequisite or Corequisite: NSG 4235.

NSG 4343 Nursing Leadership and Management
3 cr.
This course focuses on holistic leadership and management roles of the entry level baccalaureate nurse. Prerequisite: NSG 3300, 3325, 3335. Corequisites NSG 4200, 4225.

NSG 4500 Transition into Professional Nursing Practice
6 cr.
This coursewill facilitate the transition fromstudent to professional nurse. The student will be immersed in laboratory and preceptored clinical experienceswhich will continue to develop critical-thinking skills. This course will promote socialization into professional nursing practice. Prerequisite: NSG 4200, 4225, 4343.

NSG 4441 Critical Care Nursing

Exploration of the critical care environment through theory and clinical application. Focuses on concepts related to assessing and providing care to critically ill clients, obtaining and utilizing diagnostic indicators and critical care pharmacotherapy. Prerequisite: Senior standing.

NSG 4444 Invitation to Integrative Health
2 cr.
Examine holistic integrative healthcare systems. Students will explore integrative therapies effective for promoting healing in self and clients. Focus is on preparation for practicewith sound knowledge of integrative therapies. Prerequisite: junior or senior Standing in nursing program.

NSG 4427 Leadership Practicum: Mentoring I

Nurtures leadership qualities and characteristics of senior nursing studentswhile engaging theminmentoring groups of junior nursing students. Pre or corequisites: senior status and pre-selected by instructor.

NSG 3125 RN/BA Nursing Program Orientation
This non-credit, mandatory orientation course presents an overviewof the process of learning in an online environment. It will introduce the online RN/BA nursing student to all aspects of the online program, including college and nursing program information, WebCT (online course format), St. Scholastica groupwise e-mail, CSS distance library services, and other necessary information to be successful in the online RN/BA nursing program. Corequisite: Acceptance into the RN/BA Online Nursing Program. Mandatory completion prior to the beginning of RN/BA online nursing program.

NSG 3336 Health Assessment for RN Students
4 cr.
This course builds on assessment information fromthe associate degree/diploma level of nursing education. A systems-based approach is used with a strong lifespan developmental focus. The holistic health assessment needs of culturally diverse, rural and unique populations are examined. Family assessment is introduced. Students will utilize clients in their own community for performing health assessments. Pre or corequisites: Admission to the RN/BA nursing program.

NSG 3355 Research, Evidence-Based Practice and Information Technology in Nursing
4 cr.
This course emphasizes the role of the nurse as a critical consumer of research findings for the purpose of improving nursing practice. Students explore the relationships between nursing research and evidencebased practice, as well as the impact that information technology has on nursing practice. An opportunity to utilize an electronicmedical record (ATHENS)will be provided during this course. Pre or corequisites: Admission to the RN/BA nursing program, statistics course.

NSG 3361 Dimensions of Professional Nursing
4 cr.
This course presents an overview of professional nursing practice, focusing on the roles and characteristics of the baccalaureate nurse. Theory and philosophy of nursing will be emphasized. Historical perspectives that have had an impact on the profession will be explored. Other areas of study include the use of processes guiding the professional practice of nursing and professional nursing in a changing health care delivery system, family nursing theory and teachinglearning theory. Pre or co-requisites: Admission to the RN/BA Nursing Program, completion of the RN/BA orientation.

NSG 4463 Public Health Nursing

In this course students will apply public health principles to nursing practice froma population-based individual, community and system level. This course examines public health from a local, national and global perspective. Pre or corequisites: Admission to the RN/BA Nursing Program.

NSG 4472 Nursing Issues and Analysis
4 cr.
This course provides an analysis of historical and current issues affecting aspects of professional nursing practice. Professional nursing in a changing health care delivery system is examined from a leadership perspective. A personal, issue-related action plan will be developed and implemented. Pre or corequisites: Admission to the RN/BA Nursing Program, successful completion of NSG 3361.

NSG 4998 RN/BA Nursing Portfolio
20 cr.
The RN/BA Nursing Portfolio allows the RN student an opportunity to obtain nursing credits for the major based on prior RN experience. Graduation requirements mandate the completion of 20 credits for the nursing portfolio. Pre or corequisites: Admission to the RN/BA Nursing Program.
