The College of St. Scholastica presents a speaker series for the Twin Cities business community, alumni, faculty and students that focus on navigating a culture of change. This four-part presentation provides valuable insight into maintaining success within a changing environment.

Rich Breu is owner of Breu Bros Garage, a business consulting firm for business owners and leaders in the areas of people, operations and strategies. Breu is considered an expert in developing people, team building, creating strategies and operational plans. One of Breu's strengths is his dynamic training style as well as powerful and provocative messages.

Diana Purcel is CFO at Famous Dave's of America, Inc. She currently heads up the finance, accounting, information systems, internal audit, investor relations, legal and real estate functions at the company. Purcel will provide insight into how the new executive team at Famous Dave's developed a different path for the company based on an intentional finance and branding process.

Gloria C. Lewis is President & CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities. She leads the strategic direction of one of the largest Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliates in the nation. Throughout her career, Lewis has delivered measurable results, engineered meaningful change, and identified innovative funding sources.

Michael Howe

Michael C. Howe is chief executive officer of MinuteClinic, the pioneer and largest provider of retail health care in the America with 85 health care centers in 11 states. Integrating quality medical care with an understanding of today's demanding lifestyles, MinuteClinics are staffed by certified family nurse practitioners and physician assistants who are trained to diagnose, treat and write prescriptions for common family illnesses such as strep throat, ear, eye, sinus and bladder infections. MinuteClinics also offer common vaccinations such as flu shots.

Howe joined Minneapolis-based MinuteClinic in 2005. His career is distinguished by his ability to build nationally recognized brands that respond to consumers' needs. He is highly regarded for his work with brands under the Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo and Unilever portfolios. Howe is also the former CEO of Arby's, a quick service restaurant operating company with 3,400 units nationwide. He has served on the boards of several community focused organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters and the International Franchise Association. Most recently he was recognized by Fast Company magazine as one of the top 50 people that will change how we work and live over the next 10 years.


Richard D. Breu. With over 35 years of experience in leading people as a business owner and in a variety of other roles, Rich is widely known for his leadership abilities.

As owner of Breu Bros Garage, a business consulting firm, Rich provides expert and professional assistance to business owners and leaders in the areas of People (culture), Operations and Strategies. Rich is considered an expert in leadership, coaching, developing people, team building, time management, communication, presentation skills, creating strategies and operational plans. One of Rich's strengths is his dynamic training style. He is recognized nationally as a speaker who delivers powerful and provocative messages on a wide variety of current business and social issues.

Rich's current client list includes US Allianz, John Deere, BMW, International, Huber Universal Services, Next Level Café, an innovative IT company, and dozens of small and medium sized businesses throughout the upper Midwest.

Prior to starting Breu Bros Garage, Rich spent more than 20 years in full-time ministry as a senior pastor and church growth consultant. During this time, he was also recognized as a consultant who could turn around organizations in serious trouble. Experience includes highly successful sales record, profitable business ownership, leadership training and development, keynote speaking, operations development and corporate culture change.

Rich has an exciting and varied background; primarily focused on serving others in his careers as a police officer, senior pastor and business owner, consultant and facilitator for Inner Circle, peer groups for business owners.

Breu offers a substantial amount of time and expertise to assist civic organizations, chambers of commerce and other community activities.


Gloria LewisGloria C. Lewis leads the strategic direction of one of the largest Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliates in the nation. She ensures annual goals are achieved, acts as board liaison and guarantees the local mission to enrich young people's lives through one-to-one relationships is realized. Lewis joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities (BBBS) in 2005, bringing more than 25 years experience in public and non-profit administration. Throughout her career, she has delivered measurable results, engineered meaningful change and identified innovative funding sources.

Prior to assuming leadership at BBBS, Lewis served as the director of the Minnesota Department of Health's Office of Minority and Multicultural Health where she developed and maintained the largest legislative-funded health disparities initiative in the nation. Previously, she served the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services by introducing an asset-based approach to child welfare. While working for the Chicago Department of Public Health, Lewis created the first violence prevention plan developed by a major urban city. As a director in the Philadelphia School District, Lewis developed and maintained a drug and alcohol prevention system for grades K-12.

Lewis is committed to the development, education and health of young people. She is currently a member of Augsburg College's board of regents and the University of St. Thomas' MBA advisory board. She also serves on the board of directors for the American Heart Association. Lewis holds a master degree from Boston University and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Hampton University, Hampton, Va. She lives in Minneapolis with her husband, the Rev. Craig J. Lewis.


Diana PurcellDiana Purcel is chief financial officer and corporate secretary of Famous Dave's of America, a publicly held company specializing in great barbecue available in approximately 150 restaurants in 35 states across the nation. In that capacity she is responsible for all of the accounting and finance functions, investor relations, internal audit, legal, real estate and information technology.

Prior to joining Famous Dave's in November 2003, Diana was chief financial officer and chief accounting officer of Paper Warehouse, Inc. where she also had previously served as controller. She has also held positions with Provell, Inc. (formerly Damark International), Target Corporation (formerly Dayton Hudson Corporation) and Arthur Andersen. Diana, a Minnesota native and graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans, is a certified public accountant. In addition to serving as a board member and Chair of the Audit Committee for the Multicultural Food and Hospitality Alliance (MFHA), Diana is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Minnesota State Society of CPA's, the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), the National Restaurant Association (NRA) and the Women's Food Service Forum (WFF). Diana sits on the advisory council for the Minnesota School of Business's accounting program, and is an annual guest speaker at The University of St. Thomas. Diana received the honor of being named a Top Woman in Finance for the State of Minnesota by Finance-Commerce in 2005, and was named a 'Forty-under-Forty' honoree by the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal in 2006.

Diana is involved in her synagogue, where she supports her children's education and training and has served on the Budget and Finance Committee. She is a member of Jewish Women International and The National Council of Jewish Women; organizations devoted to creating a safe world and improve the lives of women, children and families everyday through education, advocacy and action.

Diana lives in a suburb of Minneapolis with her husband of over eighteen years and her three children, Brandon, Laurel and Blake.
