The College of St. Scholastica continues its 2007-2008 theater season with “The Joy of Going Somewhere Definite” by Quincy Long at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the St. Scholastica Theatre on campus. The comedy was written as a radio play and features original music by Luke Moravec, St. Scholastica’s coordinator of student activities and a 2003 graduate of the College. The production also features guest artist Chris Nollet as the Foley artist or sound effects specialist. The plot involves three down-on-their-luck north woods loggers who decide to assist an even more woebegone stranger. After finding a "dear John" letter in the stranger's hat, they embark on a misguided trek to reunite him with his wife. “The play demonstrates that good intentions cannot overcome incompetence,” said director Tammy Ostrander, dean of the School of Arts and Letters and professor in the Department of Communication, Theatre and Art. Ice fishing, logging, and a trip to Canada contribute to the north woods experience. According to the New York Times, the play “tells an affecting tale of the frozen North that illuminates both the hardship and the spirituality in everyday life. It’s a sweet, quirky play that reflects a truly original sensibility.” The New York Post called the play a “crazy ride” that is “nuttily joyous and brilliantly sustained.” Other performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2, 7, 8 and 9, and at 2 p.m. Feb. 3 and 10. Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for senior citizens and non-St. Scholastica students (with identification), and $5 for St. Scholastica students.
