The College of St. Scholastica’s Kaleidoscope Multicultural Club (KMC) presents “Welcome to Our Village,” an Asian Heritage Celebration beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Tower Hall on the St. Scholastica campus. Performances begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. A hip-hop workshop led by Soul Funk Patrol, a dance group from the University of Minnesota Duluth, will be offered at 4:30 p.m. in the Intercultural Center adjacent to the Student Union in Tower Hall. Asian and Indian food provided by China Café and Taj India will be available in the Student Union beginning at 5:30 p.m. Performances begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Auditorium and include performers from the Twin Cities: Red Hot Peppers, a Chinese dance group; Motion Crew, a break dancing group; and rap artist ‘Ge.’ Soul Funk Patrol and Eman’s Belly Dancers from Duluth will also perform. Mao Vang, a junior at the College and coordinator for the celebration, says she wants to make the Asian culture accessible to the community. “I want them to see the beauty behind it.” The Asian Heritage Celebration is sponsored by KMC, a student group that promotes diversity throughout campus and the community, and by the Student Senate and St. Scholastica’s Office of Multicultural and Diversity Services.
