Duluth native Mary Mike Pavoni has been named Alum of the Month for October 2007 at The College of St. Scholastica. The Alum of the Month designation recognizes alumni who are role models to current students and an inspiration to St. Scholastica alumni. Pavoni graduated from St. Scholastica in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in medical records science. She received her master’s degree in management and organizational behavior from Benedictine University in Lisle, IL. For nearly 30 years Pavoni directed the medical records/health information management departments in several large teaching hospitals. She is past president and past distinguished member of both the Chicago Health Information Management Association (HIMA) and the Illinois HIMA. She served on the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) board for three years. In 2003, she received that organization’s Triumph Award for volunteer service. Pavoni observed that The College of St. Scholastica has been well represented at the AHIMA. When she was elected to the board in 1993 the association had 46,000 members. Of the 10 members of the board, she noted, “five of us were St. Scholastica graduates!” The College of St. Scholastica is regularly recognized as one of the finest colleges in the Midwest. The 2008 “America's Best Colleges” survey by U.S. News & World Report magazine ranks St. Scholastica in the top tier of Midwestern universities. The Washington Post has rated St. Scholastica as one of the nation’s 100 “hidden gems” among U.S. colleges and universities.
