The Bastians kick off Cambiata concert series with Woody Guthrie music.

09/25/12DULUTH, MN - "Woody Guthrie: The Great American Hoping Machine" marks the opening concert for the College's 2012 - 2013 Cambiata Music Series.
The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in the Mitchell Auditorium on campus. The public is invited; tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for St. Scholastica faculty/staff, free for St. Scholastica students and sisters of the monastery.
St. Scholastica's Bill Bastian, music instructor, along with his wife, Laurie Bastian, will use their musical talents to perform the music of Woody Guthrie during his travels around the United States during times of the Great Depression and World War II, including such favorites as "This Land is Your Land." Bill will sing and play guitar while Laurie plays the fiddle.

Unless otherwise noted, tickets for all concerts are $15 for adults and $5 for students age 18 and younger (or with current college ID). Concerts are free for CSS students and sisters of the St. Scholastica monastery. All performances start at 7:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Auditorium on campus.

Centennial Featured Concert: "The Highwayman"
An award-winning musical re-creation, directed by Shelley Gruskin, professor emeritus, of a poem that narrates the story of a highway man who falls in love with an innkeeper's daughter on a dark, windy night. The music was written in 1941 by Sister Martina Hughes, a longtime St. Scholastica music faculty member and former president of the College, and received its debut in that year by the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra and chorus (the performance was mentioned in Time magazine).

Bring your friends, family and your voice to the 32nd annual sing-along of Handel's Messiah. You provide the singing and the St. Scholastica Center for Early Music Orchestra will provide the accompaniment. Bring your score or buy one at the door for $15.
