St. Scholastica launches Clean, a recovery services program

The College of St. Scholastica's new recovery services program, Clean, invites the public to its free kick-off event on Thursday, Sept. 17, in the Mitchell Auditorium on campus.

Comedian Mark Lundholm, whom the Chicago Sun-Times says "is a terrific performer - aggressive, funny and charming," will perform at 7 p.m. A reception will precede the performance in the Mitchell foyer, beginning at 6 p.m. Music will be provided by The Randy Lee Ensemble; appetizers will be served.

"We are pleased to introduce Clean to the Twin Ports," said Ben Bertsch, Clean program coordinator. "Primarily we are here to serve students who are living life clean and sober. However, we will also reach out to the broader recovery community as well as collaborate with existing efforts taking place within the recovery movement."

Mark Lundholm is a comedian whose performance has been described as a "thought-provoking journey through man's decline and his subsequent ascension." The New York Times says he has "acerbic powers of observation [that] are quite dark and funny." He has had his own Showtime Comedy Special and written and starred in three one-man shows. The most notable is "Addicted...a comedy of substance." After playing an extended run off-Broadway and receiving great reviews from The New York Post, The New York Times and The Associated Press, "Addicted" was voted the most highly recommended show in New York City by The Wall Street Journal's Zagat Theatre Survey. Randy Lee is a saxophone clinician and professional musician who has performed with the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra, Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra, Lake Superior Saxophone Quartet, and Twin Ports Wind Ensemble.

Clean Recovery Services at St. Scholastica provides a welcoming and supportive community where students in recovery from chemical dependency, who are committed to a life of sobriety, can strengthen their skills to enhance their academic, professional and personal development.
