St. Scholastica students will have the opportunity to improve their social skills at the "No Jobs for Slobs" etiquette dinner at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites in downtown Duluth.
"Students need to understand that as they start applying for jobs or internships, they may be taken out for lunch by the employer and employers are looking at candidates' manners and professionalism," said Cathy Farrell, director of career services at St. Scholastica. "No matter the occupation, students will find themselves in a professional dining experience and need to feel confident in such a situation."
Kathlynn McConnell, a corporate trainer and business owner, will guide the students through a four-course dinner, giving tips and suggestions along the way. Tips will include basic dining etiquette such as: which fork to use with which serving; which glass is yours; and how to eat pasta. McConnell also will share a few manners found in other countries.
The dinner is open to St. Scholastica students. The cost is $10; business casual dress is requested.
"No Jobs for Slobs" is sponsored by St. Scholastica's Career Services office, Student Alumni Association and Alumni Relations Department.
