A panel of criminal justice professionals will discuss "Mental Health in the Justice System" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, in Somers Main Lounge. The event is free and open to the public.
The panel will examine the way the justice system manages mental health concerns in intake, jailing, and the courthouse. Featured speakers include Minnesota Sixth District Judge Sally Tarnowski, St. Louis County Jail Administrator Robyn Wojciechowski, Duluth Community Officer Nicholas Lepak, and Duluth Police Officer Dave Drozdowski.
The event is sponsored by Active Minds, a student organization dedicated to removing the stigma that surrounds mental health issues and creating a comfortable environment for open conversation about mental health issues on campus. For more information call (218) 391-3121.
By developing and supporting chapters of a student-run mental health awareness, education, and advocacy group on campuses, the Active Minds organization works to increase students' awareness of mental health issues, provide information and resources regarding mental health and mental illness, encourage students to seek help as soon as it is needed, and serve as liaison between students and the mental health community.
The event is free, but donations are welcome and will go to Active Minds.
