Los Pinguos, a musical act known as the South American version of the Beatles, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23 in the Mitchell Auditorium on The College of St. Scholastica campus. The concert is part of the 2009-2010 Mitchell Performing Arts Series.
Originally from Buenos Aries, Argentina, Los Pinguos came to the United States with a mixture of Latin rhythms, performed with Spanish, Cuban and Peruvian instruments, alongside harmonizing vocals. The group's Latin sounds have claimed fans worldwide, from their hometown to the streets of Los Angeles.
Los Pinguos was the winner of "The Next Big Star," hosted and produced by Ed McMahon. They have recorded five albums. Their music has appeared in the TV series "The Shield," and is featured in the Antonio Banderas and Emma Thompson film "Imagining Argentina." The band also participated in the award-winning documentary on street musicians entitled "Playing for Change."
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and students, and $10 for age 12 and younger. The same prices apply for individual shows in the rest of the Performing Arts Series.
