Candlelight and Christmas carols will fill the air on Tuesday, Dec. 1, for The College of St. Scholastica's annual Advent Vespers service and "Lighting a Tradition" ceremony.
Both events are free and open to the public, and on-campus parking is free. "Lighting a Tradition" is sponsored by St. Scholastica's Student Alumni Association. The Advent Vespers portion of the program is co-sponsored by St. Scholastica Campus Ministry and the St. Scholastica Monastery.
The celebration begins with Advent Vespers at 4:30 p.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel adjacent to Tower Hall. The ecumenical service will feature the music of Advent, interspersed with prayer, quiet reflection and candlelight.
Upon leaving the Vespers service, participants will carry lit candles and walk from the chapel to the front steps of Tower Hall for the annual "Lighting a Tradition" Christmas tree-lighting ceremony at 5:15 p.m. St. Scholastica President Larry Goodwin will give brief remarks before a countdown to the illumination of the tree lights. Musicians will lead the crowd in a holiday song. Participants are invited inside Tower Hall foyer to enjoy hot beverages and cookies following the ceremony.
