The College of St. Scholastica has named Dr. Pamela Bjorklund the winner of the 33rd annual Max H. Lavine Award for Teaching Excellence.
The award is St. Scholastica's highest honor for achievement among its faculty. Bjorklund is an associate professor in the Nursing Department. She teaches courses at both the master's and doctoral levels, in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program and the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.
The Lavine Award was established in 1977 by Mrs. Max H. Lavine of Duluth and her son, John, to recognize quality teaching at St. Scholastica. Criteria include commitment to furthering the mission of the College through value-oriented teaching in the Benedictine tradition, and personal qualities - such as love of one's academic discipline, enthusiasm, fairness and respect for others - that enhance the teaching-learning environment.
The award was presented to Bjorklund by Dr. Beth Domholdt, St. Scholastica's vice president for academic affairs, at an appreciation luncheon for faculty and staff in May.
"Dr. Bjorklund exhibits a commitment to furthering the mission of the College through her value-oriented teaching," wrote her nominator. "She creates community in the classroom setting, whether in a face-to-face session or online....
"It is obvious when listening to Dr. Bjorklund that she has a true love of her academic discipline - and helps to create that love and enthusiasm in others."
Bjorklund received her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; an M.S. and B.S. at the University of Colorado, Health Sciences Center in Denver; and her B.A. from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
