Kennedy Center's "Color Me Dark: A Story of the Great Migration North" to be staged April 10 in the Mitchell Auditorium

03/20/06DULUTH, MN – “Color Me Dark: A Story of the Great Migration North” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 10, in the Mitchell Auditorium at The College of St. Scholastica. The performance is part of the St. Scholastica 2005-2006 Performing Arts season.
“Color Me Dark” is based on the book by Patricia C. McKissack and was adapted for the stage by Jerome Hairston.
The production is a co-commission of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and Scholastic Entertainment. Kennedy Center touring productions feature enhanced programming for students, teachers and families, including performance guides, a teachers’ workshop and question-and-answer sessions with the company.
“Color Me Dark” tells the story of sisters Nellie Lee and Erma Jean Love as their family moves to Chicago to escape the prejudice of rural Tennessee in the 1920s. Their uncle Pace, who has returned from serving in World War I, is severely beaten, so the family decides to move north – only to face racial riots that eventually give them courage to move toward a brighter future.
