The Butch Thompson Trio will perform as part of the Mitchell Performing Arts Series. The performance is at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, in the Mitchell Auditorium.
Thompson is internationally known for his command of early jazz and blues repertoire. His trio was the house band on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" for 12 years in the 1970s and '80s.
This concert will explore a wide range of Americana including classic ragtime by Scott Joplin, New Orleans jazz by Jelly Roll Morton, early Chicago blues and boogie-woogie, stride piano by Fats Waller and more, laced with Thompson's own commentary.
This activity is funded, in part, by the Minnesota State Arts Board through the arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the Legacy Amendment vote by the people of Minnesota on Nov. 4, 2008.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students and $10 for children 12 and younger.
